Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is reportedly considering a move abroad in a bid to resurrect his career.

Phillips, 28, had a difficult 2023-24 campaign that saw him remain out of favour at City before moving on loan to West Ham in January. His switch to east London proved disastrous as he started just three league games, with David Moyes hauling him off at half time in one, while he was shown a red card in another.

His former club Leeds had been interested in re-signing him if they had been promoted back to the Premier League, but they lost the play-off final to Southampton on Sunday.

Everton have also emerged as a potential suitor, with the Toffees targeting a loan move, but Phillips is now pondering leaving the Premier League entirely, according to The Sun

Germany's RB Leipzig, Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg and Serie A giants Roma are all understood to be keen on the England international.

Phillips had a disastrous loan spell at West Ham but still has a number of clubs from across Europe interested in signing him

Phillips realises his City career is over, despite the club spending £45m on him in 2022, and is looking for a fresh start elsewhere following a difficult two years.

He was named England's Player of the Year in 2021 after starting every game in their run to the final of the Euros, but his career has gone backwards since he left hometown club Leeds to join City.

Pep Guardiola accused Phillips of being overweight in his first season at the club, and then admitted he could not envisage Phillips in his team earlier this term.

The latter comment marked the beginning of the end for Phillips at City, and he was loaned out to West Ham at the start of the year, but he failed to find form for the Hammers.

Below-par performances and fitness concerns meant Phillips was left out of Gareth Southgate's England squad for the March internationals, and he was not named in the provisional 33-man training group for Euro 2024 last week.

He will not be involved in this summer's tournament in Germany, three years on from being one of the Three Lions' standout players at the last Euros, and could now leave England in search of regular first-team football.
