Kingswood stabbing: Woman is killed as manhunt is launched for 21-year-old man

An urgent police manhunt is underway after a young woman was found stabbed to death in a unit along a busy thoroughfare.

Emergency services were called to a home along the Great Western Highway at Kingswood in Sydney's west at about 1.40pm.

A woman, 21, found with two stab wounds to her chest died at the scene, despite desperate attempts by paramedics to revive her. 

NSW Police launched a desperate search for a man seen fleeing the scene, who remained on the run on Monday night.

The man, 21, is described Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, solid build, wearing a black jumper, pants and beanie and a black and red basketball singlet.

Detective Superintendent Trent King told a press conference that the man was last seen on foot running from the unit complex.

It’s believed the man and woman were known to each other.

'It's alleged that a 21-year-old male in a domestic relationship with this person is the perpetrator of this incident and had caused those injuries to the female, he is now wanted in relation to her death,' Supt King said.

'While it is considered that this was a targeted incident, I would urge the public if they do see this person or have any information in relation to this person, to contact triple zero in the first instance and not to approach him.

'We do know who he is, however, at this stage, the investigation is very early on, and there are further processes to be completed before I can release any further details in relation to him.

The woman is yet to be formally identified and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Superintendent King said the woman was living in a share house arrangement with other people.

He added that neither the victim or the man were known to police for domestic violence related incidents. 

NSW Police said that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
