As she stood arm in arm with her beloved father while waiting to walk down the aisle two weeks ago, Chloe Goodman felt a pang of sadness in her stomach.
Despite the excitement of the occasion — the wedding she had long planned beneath the glorious sunshine of the Algarve in Portugal — someone important was missing.
Her big sister Lauryn, best known for being the former lover of married England vice-captain Kyle Walker and mother to two of his children, was absent from the occasion.
But this was no snub or unavoidable clash of schedules. Chloe herself had banned her sister from the big day.
The decision to disinvite Lauryn was, she admits now, one of the hardest of her life and, for weeks, she feared she would regret it. The women had once been so close and it was through Chloe, a former glamour model and star of Celebrity Big Brother, that Lauryn, 33, first met Kyle.

And yet the fallout from Lauryn’s illicit relationship with the £180,000-a-week footballer, the twists and turns of which made headlines for months earlier this year, meant Chloe had no choice but to exclude her sister, she says now. In an exclusive interview with the Mail, Chloe, 31, insists it all stemmed from Lauryn’s decision in December last year to go public about her affair with Kyle, revealing he was the father of her baby girl, who was born last summer.
Since Kyle was still very much married at the time — to Annie Kilner, who was pregnant with the couple’s fourth child — Lauryn’s revelation was bound to cause ‘drama’, and it was this that Chloe wanted to avoid overshadowing her big day.
Indeed, she had begged Lauryn not to disclose Kyle’s name until after the wedding. ‘The least Lauryn could have done is kept it quiet that Kyle was the dad of her second-born until after the wedding,’ says Chloe.
‘Lauryn and I had a conversation about it. I knew she was pregnant and I knew the baby was Kyle’s. I had asked her if she could keep it quiet.
‘Things were so messy when she had [her three-year-old son] Kairo and it came out that he was Kyle’s and I feared the same would happen again with his little sister. So I said: “Look I get married in June and I just don’t want a whole frenzy at my wedding.”
‘I wanted it to stay a secret and I wanted my day with Grant. It was about two people getting married and having a stress-free memorable occasion for all the right reasons.
‘It was the one day when I didn’t want to have to worry, especially with our close friends and family.’
But Lauryn did reveal her secret, meaning her life ‘became a spectacle’ again. Annie now threw Kyle out of their £4million home in Cheshire and a very public war of words broke out between all three — Annie, Kyle and Lauryn.
‘I was planning the final stages [of my wedding] and I had been planning it for a long time when all of Lauryn’s mess was coming out,’ continues Chloe. ‘So in the end I was forced to choose, I had to make a big decision. I simply didn’t want the drama.’
The rift was even harder to bear given the hours of excitement she had shared with Lauryn and their younger sister Amelia, 25, in the run-up to the wedding. For months, the trio had endlessly discussed what they were going to wear and pored over the fittings that Chloe had for her stunning Riki Dalal gown, which cost around £10,000, travelling up and down to the Hummingbird bridal studio in Sheffield.
‘I was planning my wedding for two years — way before everything that happened recently with Lauryn and Kyle,’ says Chloe. ‘Everything was booked, down to the whole family’s flights. Lauryn was going to be a bridesmaid, Kairo a page boy and Lauryn’s baby daughter was all set to be a flower girl. All the outfits were ready and we were all really looking forward to having a big family wedding.
‘I adore my niece and nephew —those kids mean the world to me. My own two kids love them. We were all so excited.’
Heartbreakingly, she now admits: ‘I did take Lauryn’s dress and shoes [to Portugal] with me in case I changed my mind at the last minute, but my gut kept saying no. It’s so horrible to say, but I knew I’d be better off for not having that anxiety of Lauryn being there.’
It was a shame for everyone that the sisters’ quarrel could not be healed in time and the wedding went ahead without Lauryn. But then came another twist in this extraordinary tale of family intrigue and sexual betrayal.
Lauryn and Chloe had once been so close and it was through the Celebrity Big Brother star, that the influencer first met Kyle
Chloe with her husband Grant, and their children Isla and Hudson
Last month, it emerged that while Chloe and her husband-to-be, Rotherham defender Grant Hall, 32, and their children Isla, four, and Hudson, two, were enjoying the celebrations at the Quinta do Lago resort, Lauryn and her two children were on holiday just five miles away.
In fact, at the very time that Chloe was saying her vows, her sister was seen on a boat with Kairo and his as-yet-unnamed little sister.
Friends of Lauryn’s say she took the view that, since she had already paid for her flights and hotel, she might as well go regardless. She was also joined by a film crew who were recording for an ITV reality show — though the footage is unlikely to see the light of day as the project appears to have been shelved due to legal concerns.
Did Chloe feel bad? ‘No, I couldn’t let myself,’ she said. ‘I had Grant to think about, too. It wasn’t just my day. I’m guessing Lauryn may have thought I was being selfish, but I know she can’t control everything.
‘You can’t control things when drinks are flowing,’ she adds. ‘It was best for her not to be there.’
As well the Kyle drama, Chloe also admits that her sister is ‘difficult’ and the saga could have prompted arguments on the day.
Chloe says: ‘Lauryn is my sister and I love her, but she’s a difficult person. For example, she doesn’t let anyone take pictures of her kids without her permission which I respect. She has an anxiety about people taking pictures of the kids and putting them on social media. While I don’t think other guests would have done that, I couldn’t promise they wouldn’t be in the background of photographs.

‘I wasn’t confident that she wouldn’t cause issues on the day and I didn’t want the intrusion, especially around the children, when the day can already be so overwhelming for little ones. I didn’t want to worry about her behaviour.
She can be unpredictable, she gets cheesed off, and was she going to ignore me? I wasn’t confident that she wouldn’t cause a drama so I had to be selfish. A lot of people made a lot of effort to be there. It really wasn’t easy, but I had to go with my gut. If it doesn’t feel right, then you have to say no.’
Chloe’s decision to ban her sister meant she was mercilessly trolled on social media. Having first appeared on the MTV reality series Ex On The Beach in 2014, she has been in the public eye for more than a decade. But even so, the backlash she suffered stunned her.
‘I have had people telling me I’m disgusting. They say: “She’s your sister” and “Your sister needs you right now”. But I have my own family, so I’ve just ignored it. I guess people can’t understand it because they haven’t walked in my shoes. Grant and I are two hard-working people who enjoy our lives. I also had to think about his parents.’
Chloe admits she thought their mother — who attended the wedding along with their father from whom she is divorced — would ‘go mad’ at her for leaving Lauryn out. But instead of being cross, she simply urged her to think long and hard about what she was doing.
‘I was dreading telling Mum,’ she says. ‘I thought she was going to tell me off, but she was fine. She just didn’t want me to have any regrets. It must have been hard for her.’ And despite her instincts, Chloe says there were occasions during the wedding celebrations when she did wonder if she’d done the right thing.
‘I did have a moment of uncertainty the night before the wedding. I sat with Amelia and she was reassuring: “No, you have made the right decision”.
‘So I continued to go with my gut. My gut kept telling me I was right not to have Lauryn there. I had to just remember that. I had to trust my instinct that I was right on this one. But it was hard.
‘Then, on the day of the wedding itself, once I got in the car with Dad, I started thinking about it again, and then again just before I started to walk down the aisle. I thought this is sad. Obviously I would want her there, but everything else that goes with it, with her, is just too much.’
Today, as Chloe and Grant celebrate a month of being a married couple, she’s at peace with her decision. She knows, too, that at some point she will have to have a conversation with Lauryn.
‘Life is short and I love my sister so much,’ she reveals. ‘I just long for the day when all of this mess is behind us.’
