The boyfriend of a nurse who was tragically killed in a horrific car crash in a Brisbane freeway tunnel has reflected on the tragic loss of his 'future wife'.

Lily Galbraith, 24, died when the Mazda she was travelling in, driven by close friend Emma McLean, 23, was hit from behind and pushed into a truck.

They were hit by ex-police officer Bruce Daley, 56, who was driving his Audi at up to 200km/h in the Legacy Way Tunnel at 3:10pm on Wednesday.

Now her boyfriend Blayde Brummelhuis has released a statement addressed to 'the love of my life', coming to grips with his new life without Ms Galbraith.

'You came into my life when I needed you most and you made me the happiest man in the world,' Mr Brummelhuis wrote.

Blayde Brummelhuis said that his 'future wife' Lily Galbraith was his soulmate and best friend

Mr Daley, who was behind the wheel of a black Audi convertible  also died.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and Ms McLean is in a critical condition in hospital.

Mr Brummelhuis said that Ms Galbraith was his 'soulmate, best friend and safe place' who was the 'prettiest girl in the world'.

'Many people aren't lucky enough to have someone like you in their life and I was fortunate enough to call you my future wife,' he wrote.

'Each day was made better by your beautiful big smile, your gorgeous eyes and your warm hugs.

'I will miss you in every way.

'The way you made cooking meals together fun, the laughter we had just trying to brush our teeth together and our cleaning days where you knew I wasn't much help but as long as we were laughing you were happy.'

'There isn't enough words to express who you are and the good you put out into the world.'

'You will forever be my Little Lady. I know you will always be there watching over us all and keeping us safe,' Mr Brummelhuis wrote

The couple shared pet names with Mr Brummelhuis calling Ms Galibraith his 'little lady' and she calling him 'goose'.

'You will forever be my Little Lady. I know you will always be there watching over us all and keeping us safe,' he said.

'So baby girl this isn't goodbye this is just until next time. Save me a dance up there.

'With every ounce of love I have, Yours forever, Your goose, Blayde.'

Ms Mclean, who was driving the Mazda, underwent surgery in Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Wednesday night.

Ms McLean, 23, from Adelaide, had only recently gotten engaged to her boyfriend after a five year relationship.

Mr Daley was retired from the Queensland Police Service on medical grounds in 2014.

He had mentioned his mental health struggles in worrying online posts including references to loneliness and suicide.
