Lindsay Shiver will face trial in just three months time after being charged with plotting to have her former Auburn football player husband killed in murder-for-hire plot

11 months ago 55

Georgia housewife Lindsay Shiver and her Bahamian boyfriend will stand trial next March for allegedly plotting to unleash an assassin on her wealthy ex-college football player husband.

Mom-of-three Shiver, 37, appeared in Nassau’s Supreme Court Friday charged with conspiring to kill Robert Shiver with the help of Terrance Adrien Bethel, 28, and would-be assassin Faron Newbold Jr, 29.

'You Lindsay Shiver, Terrance Bethel and Faron Newbold on Sunday 16th of July 2023 in Abaco, being concerned together, conspired to kill Robert Shiver. How do you plead?’ court clerk Andy Saunders asked the trio.In a firm voice.

Former cheerleader Shiver, wearing beige high heels and a white pantsuit, replied ‘Not guilty.’

Robert accused his wife of drinking, making 'poor decisions' and falling in with an 'unpleasant' new crowd

Her co-defendants, both wearing black suits, gave the same reply before all three were ordered to stand trial at Nassau’s Supreme Court on March 4 next year.

Judge Cheryl Grant-Thompson chided them for supposedly noting down future court dates while their lawyers addressed the brief arraignment.

‘You need to pay attention,’ she snapped. ‘They are not charged with anything, you are.

’Shiver, Bethel and Newbold face up to 60 years in a hellhole Bahamian prison if prosecutors can convince jurors that WhatsApp messages they sent one another saying they ‘wanted to kill’ Robert, 38, represented a genuine murder plot.

‘Lindsay is innocent and the evidence will clearly demonstrate her innocence,' her attorney Owen Wells said in a statement after the hearing.

'She continues to face the legal process with complete transparency and honesty,’ he aded.

‘Lindsay is looking forward to getting this ordeal behind her and – most importantly – she is looking forward to being reunited with her young children who have been without their mother for many months.

‘She has confidence in the integrity of the Bahamian justice system and will continue to cooperate in any way she can.’

Court insiders immediately cautioned that major cases are frequently plagued by delays in the overburdened Bahamian justice system where it typically takes three years or longer to make it to trial.

Shiver’s latest court appearance comes days after DailyMail.com revealed exclusive details from indictment documents finally handed to the accused after months of delays.

Insiders with knowledge of the dossier's contents say it doesn’t mention anything about a murder weapon, nor does it unveil any planning or particular steps the trio took to murder insurance exec Robert.

The case hinges instead on a handful of text messages and a disputed ‘confession’ from Shiver who admitted in a police interview that she told Bethel she ‘wanted to kill’ Robert and that Bethel 'understood' and 'wanted to kill him also.

'In the same police interview she insisted, however, that any talk of killing was 'said out of anger and frustration' in the aftermath of a huge argument she had with Robert, who filed for divorce in April.

Shiver's attorney Owen Wells left the court with her, dressed in traditional court attire in the former British colony

Shiver has been ordered to remain on the island where she must abide by a curfew, and report to the police station three times a week as she awaits trial

Shiver, 37, is accused of conspiring to have her husband killed in a 'murder-for-hire' plot with her boyfriend Terrance Bethell using Bethel's friend Faron Newbold as the assassin

Asked directly if she plotted with Bethel and Newbold to eliminate the former Auburn long snapper, the blonde mom from Thomasville, Georgia, replied 'no.'

The bust-up at the heart of the supposed murder-for-hire scheme happened on July 16 when Shiver tried to join Robert and their kids on a trip to the Abaco Islands, where the couple own a swish townhouse in the upscale resort of Baker’s Bay.

Shiver reported her ex to the Thomasville Police Department saying he refused to let her come and pushed her outside the $2.5 million marital home they were still sharing.

Responding officers took no action after Robert denied assaulting Shiver, saying they were going through a divorce and his wife only wanted to fly to the Bahamas on their private jet so she could see her ‘boyfriend’.

That same day Bahamian police stumbled unknowingly into the dispute when they began investigating a break-in the previous evening at Grabbers, a waterfront bar close to Baker's Bay where Bethel worked nights.

Investigators examined his phone because he was one of the last people on site and stumbled across unrelated messages between himself and Newbold.

‘This n***a rolled up on Lindsay and wouldn’t let her on the plane and he put his hands on her. I am about to come out of retirement for this n***a,’ Bethel is alleged to have written to his childhood friend.

‘He is flying into Baker’s Bay, she is thinking about letting me kill him but he has the kids.’

Cops arrested Shiver on July 21, examined her iPhone and discovered she had sent Newbold ‘several pictures' of her husband along with a text stating 'kill him,' it's alleged.

When Bahamian authorities informed Robert of the alleged threat, he branded his wife 'manipulating' and speculated as to why she might want him out of the picture.

‘She had an affair with an 18-year-old about a year ago and came to Abaco and snuck him into my house in Abaco,' his statement alleged.

In his divorce filing after discovering the affair, Robert sought custody of their three children and total ownership of their Georgia mansion. The pair met in 2007 while studying at Auburn University where Robert was captain of the football team

Shiver has not been able to see her children  since her arrest in July as she must stay on New Providence, the Bahamian island that Nassau is on

The supposed intendedd victim Robert Shiver is now dating reality TV star Savannah Chrisley whose fiancé Nic Kerdiles was killed in a motorcycle accident in September

'I found out about it through her Apple Watch and she convinced me that she wants to be a family so we tried to make it work.'

The marriage crumbled for good when he discovered his wife’s relationship with Bethel in February, Robert said.

He accused his wife of drinking, making 'poor decisions' and falling in with an 'unpleasant' new crowd.

‘If something were to happen to me Lindsay would receive loads of money,’ added the dad-of-three, who flew back to the US while his ex was transferred to Nassau where she spent 19 days locked up in a rat-infested jail.

Shiver was eventually released on $100,000 bail and ordered to stay in the Bahamas, wear a GPS ankle monitor, report to police three times a week and abide by an 8pm curfew.

She  will return to court next week to make the case that she should be allowed to return to the US to see her kids for the first time since her arrest.

‘My heart is broken into a million pieces. I miss them dearly,’ she recently wrote on social media.

‘Being apart from them for so long has been the hardest experience of my life.’

DailyMail.com has learned that Robert planned to return to the Bahamas for the holidays but decided instead to spend Thanksgiving in the Turks and Caicos islands with new flame, Chrisley Knows Best alum Savannah Chrisley, 26.

He and Shiver are still scheduled to square off in Thomas County Superior Court, however, in their hostile divorce and custody battle.

While Robert has accused his wife of cheating, she countered with accusations of 'physical and mentally cruel treatment’ and said the relationship with Bethel was 'legally condoned’ by her husband.

Alabama native Shiver graduated from Auburn University, where the two met in 2007 while Robert was captain of the football team.

Robert signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent but was let go in roster cuts ahead of the 2009 season and eventually became executive vice president for Senior Life Insurance Company.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com in August, Bethel declared his love for Shiver and said her marriage was on the rocks long before he came on the scene.‘None of us have anything to hide. People are taking everything at face value and defaming us,’ he said.
