Inter Miami suffered a late collapse in their Champions Cup clash with Monterrey on Wednesday night as Jorge Rodriguez's stunning 89th-minute strike snatched a 2-1 win for the visitors.

With Lionel Messi watching on from the stands, after he failed to recover from injury in time for the first leg of this Champions Cup quarterfinal, Argentine star Rodriguez curled home a spectacular winner to complete a late turnaround for the visitors at DRV PNK Stadium.

Tomas Aviles initially fired Miami in front after 20 minutes, and Tata Martino's men looked a good bet to hold on to their lead heading into the closing stages of the game.

However, Wednesday's first leg was slipped on its head when Inter youngster David Ruiz, 20, was shown a second yellow card for slapping Monterrey's Maximiliano Meza with 25 minutes to play.

Just four minutes later, Meza made Miami and Ruiz pay for his moment of petulance when he turned home the equalizer, before Rodriguez stole the show with a long-range beauty in the dying minutes.
