England fell short of European Championship glory once again on Sunday night, as Spain beat the Three Lions 2-1 in Berlin thanks to a late goal from Mikel Oyarzabal.
Spain took the lead early in the second half through Nico Williams before substitute Cole Palmer netted a superb equaliser from outside the box, inspiring hope of a comeback victory.
But Spain, who on balance were the better team on the night, scored a decisive winner through Oyarzabal in the 86th minute to trigger more heartbreak for Gareth Southgate and the Three Lions squad.
On today's episode, which is the final instalment of 'It's All Kicking Off: Euros Daily', Craig Hope and Sami Mokbel joined host Ian Ladyman to unpick England's performance after another disappointing defeat in a major final.
Insisting that England's big players didn't turn up on the big occasion, Hope said: 'I think Southgate was owed by performances by Harry Kane, by Phil Foden, by Jude Bellingham, by Declan Rice. I was on the merit marks tonight, I'll tell you what they got: 4, 5, 5 and 6. And those four players are accumulatively worth £500million plus.
'Big players didn't turn up. When I look on social media and see Gareth getting a kicking, listen he hasn't had the best tournament, he's frozen in moments in games and had to rely on good fortune in games, but tonight I think that big quartet didn't turn up for him.'
Listen to all of that as well as whether Southgate should stick around as England boss on today's episode.
It was heartbreak again as Gareth Southgate's England lost 2-1 to Spain in the Euro 2024 final
