No Bruno? No problem...

Bruno Fernandes picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Bournemouth last weekend, forcing him to sit out of the heated clash with Liverpool today.

Despite being the star man at Old Trafford, Fernandes' absence will actually help Erik ten Hag at Anfield, according to former Premier League star Danny Murphy.

He's adamant that without the captain in midfield, United will have more defensive security. Without him out wide, the visistors pose more of a threat on the counter attacl.

Ten Hag's wake-up call

Erik ten Hag suggested his players need a 'kick up the a**' ahead of their trip to Anfield, revealing he had no problem with giving some of his stars a boot up the backside in preparation for Liverpool.

United have looked lethargic and lacklustre in recent weeks and will need plenty of energy to get the better of Liverpool, a team renowned for their dynamism and hard work ethic under Jurgen Klopp.

Could a dress down be just what United need to turn the tide?

Meanwhile, at United...

It's been a different story at Old Trafford in recent weeks, with the Red Devils crashing out of Europe altogether following disappointing results against Bayern Munich and Galatarasay.

A mixed bag in the Premier League has seen United win three of their last five matches, but dark clouds circled in Manchester following last weekend's miserable home defeat by Bournemouth.

UNITED'S LEAGUE FORM:

3-0 Bournemouth (L)

2-1 Chelsea (W)

1-0 Newcastle (L)

3-0 Everton (W)

1-0 Luton (W)

Liverpool's stellar run

Despite their midweek blip in Europe against Union Saint-Gilloise, Liverpool have been in fine form heading into the clash at Anfield, excelling in the Premier League in particular.

The superb run of form saw Liverpool jump into top spot ahead of the Premier League weekend, capitalising on struggling champions Manchester City.

2-1 Crystal Palace (W)

2-0 Sheffield United (W)

1-1 Man City (D)

Neville's United warning

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has fired a warning at Erik ten Hag ahead of the crucial and bitter derby.

Reflecting on the 7-0 massacre of last season, the ex-England right-back urged the manager to 'give the midfield a chance' against Liverpool's dynamic engine room, imploring him to scrap man marking altogether.

Stick with the current strategy, and Neville fears his former side will get 'KILLED' at Anfield once again, having lost 3-0 to Bournemouth in their last Premier League outing.

Good afternoon

The Premier League weekend may be nearing a conclusion, but there's one more tantalising fixture for fans to sink their teeth into.

Liverpool battered Manchester United 7-0 last season at Anfield and all signs are pointing to another bloodbath on Merseyside this afternoon.

The Reds came into the weekend at the top of the Premier League tree while Erik ten Hag's side are void of confidence and belief following their bitter Champions League exit in midweek.

But it would be wrong, in a derby as historic as this one, to count out the underdogs before a ball is kicked.

So get your popcorn ready and join Mail Sport's live blog throughout the afternoon for all the latest build-up, team news, match action and reaction. It could well be one of the games of the season!
