Luke Brattan has enjoyed plenty of highlights in his decorated A-League career - but playing Premier League opposition is incredibly hard to top.

Brattan, 34, will be a key figure for the A-League All Stars when they tackle Newcastle United on Friday - and remarkably, the Sydney FC skipper will be playing through the pain of a broken foot.

'I hurt it in the elimination final [against Macarthur FC on May 4], so I've had a few jabs [needles] to keep going,' the defensive midfielder told Daily Mail Australia.

'I've been fortunate in my career to previously play against the likes of Everton and Liverpool, so I wasn't going to miss this game.

'It is a special opportunity, one I am sure all the boys will soak in.

Brattan (pictured middle) will be joined by the likes of Socceroos star Mat Leckie (left) and young gun Nestory Irankunda in the clash against the Magpies

Off-contract, Brattan (pictured with his partner Courtney and their daughter Amaya) is keen to stay at Sydney FC ahead of next season in the A-League

'For the younger guys, you also never know around the world who is watching.'

Brattan will also watch the A-League Grand Final on Saturday night when the Central Coast Mariners host Melbourne Victory at Gosford.

His Sky Blues can count themselves very unlucky not to be playing in the decider, after a number of contentious calls went against them in the second qualifying leg on May 18.

'It was a tough one to take, we played really well, I was proud of the boys, we had a great season,' he said.

'I guess it just wasn't meant to be.'

Off-contract, Brattan is keen to stay at Sydney FC - but knows the decision isn't in his hands.

'I will sit down with my partner after this [All Stars] game and work out what we want to do next,' he said.

'I've been at the club since 2019, hopefully we can work something out.'

The A-League All Stars take on Newcastle at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne from 5.05pm AEST on Friday - with the A-League Women's All Stars lining up against Arsenal from 8.05pm AEST at the same venue as part of a double header.

Matildas trio Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord and Kyra Cooney-Cross will be on the Gunners' team sheet, as part of Global Football Week.
