Gary Neville said he believed Luton are resigned to going down after they were held by Everton on Friday night.

The Hatters kept alive their hopes of Premier League survival as Elijah Adebayo's excellent first-half equaliser rescued a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road.

Having not started a game since February Luton's top scorer announced his return from injury in spectacular fashion, collecting a high ball on his chest and bamboozling Ashley Young before dispatching a finish beyond Jordan Pickford to earn a valuable point.

It moved Rob Edwards' side level with 17th-place Nottingham Forest ahead of their relegation rivals' meeting with Sheffield United on Saturday, although with only one victory now in their last 14 league matches the Hatters face an uphill battle to remain in the top flight.

And Neville said: 'There was a feeling in the stadium at the final whistle, an even with Rob Edwards in interview that he feels like that it could be potentially gone.

Gary Neville said he believed Luton are resigned to going down after failing to beat Everton

'I think he is worried about that Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest game tomorrow. Sheffield United are down and a lot of teams have won there.

'If Forest win there it becomes very difficult.

'I think we all recognised before the game that it was a must win.'

But Jamie Carragher said there was still a glimmer of hope for Luton as Burnley face Forest on the final day.

He said: 'If they (Forest) don't win that then Luton are right back in it.

'If they (Luton) can get to the last day with something riding, with the fact that the two teams (Forest and Burnley) are playing each other and they've got Fulham at home.'
