A man who was unexpectedly found dead might have been 'pushed over' during a fight in a pub beer garden two days earlier, police have said.

Paul Ainscough, 57, was found dead at a property on Hollinshead Street in Chorley on Monday afternoon.

Lancashire Police believe Paul was involved in an 'incident' at a nearby pub in Leyland called the Stag on the previous Saturday (June 22) and that he 'might have been pushed over during it'.

Paul was believed to be wearing a bucket hat at the time.

His family are being supported by specially trained officers and agreed to release a picture of Paul 'in the hope that this may assist people in remembering the events of last Saturday'.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the incident in the pub garden on suspicion of assault but he was later released on bail.

Despite the arrest, a police spokesman confirmed that enquiries are still ongoing.

They said: 'At 4.09pm on Monday 24th June, our officers were called to an address in Hollinshead Street, Chorley, to a report of a sudden death.

'Very sadly, Paul Ainscough, 57, was found deceased. Our thoughts are very much with his family at this distressing time.

'We believe he was involved in an incident in the pub’s beer garden, and he might have been pushed over during it.'

The force want to speak to anyone who was at the pub or in its beer garden on June 22 between the hours of 4:30pm and 7:30pm.

If you witnessed the incident, contact 101, quoting log 0893 of June 24.
