Manchester United were mocked by their own fans after posting a bizarre clip from their first pre-season friendly against Rosenborg on Monday evening.

Erik ten Hag got his third campaign as United manager underway in Norway as his side travelled to the Lerkendal Stadion to kick-start their Premier League warmup preparations.

Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount and Casemiro all started the tie as they returned to training ahead of their colleagues who have just finished being on international duty.

United will return to Manchester briefly ahead of a trip to Scotland where they play Rangers in another friendly on Saturday and then on to the United States.

Rashford was amongst the most high-profile names to return for the start of what will be a gruelling pre-season as he searches to get back to his best form following a torrid season.

The United star is seeking to get back to his best after a disappointing previous season

Scoring just eight goals in all competitions for United last season saw Rashford miss out on being selected for England's European Championship squad and United fans were left unimpressed after one passage of play in Monday's game.

The club's official X account posted a short clip of Rashford controlling a ball on his chest before skipping past an opposition player only to then be immediately tackled and the ball roll out for a throw-in.

United captioned the post: 'Nicely done, @marcusrashford' alongside a celebratory emoji, with fans criticising the piece of play from the 26-year-old.

Reacting to the video, one critic tweeted in response: 'He has gone past one player and lost the ball. The standards have never been lower at the football club as they currently are. Sad to see.'

Rashford was tackled in the first-half when he attempted a dribble down the wing

'What has he done? For a senior player that’s some horrible final product,' said another reply.

Another supporter further added: 'You’re inviting hate by posting this. Delete it.'

Rashford was substituted at half-time of the match as is the standard practice in pre-season friendlies as Ten Hag looks to rotate his squad in a bid to boost fitness levels of every individual.

The Old Trafford academy product has faced some questions over his future at the club amid interest from European suitors but has four years remaining on his contract that runs until 2028.
