Ally McCoist has slammed Manchester United winger Antony after he gave away a penalty against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues led 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Conor Gallagher before Antony brought down Marc Cucurella in the box.

Cole Palmer made no mistake and converted from the spot to double the lead for Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Speaking after the penalty was given, TNT Sports co-commentator Ally McCoist slammed Antony for givign away the foul.

He said: 'If Antony does not go with him he's in behind him. I blame Antony here.

'He doesn't stay with his man. He has to run back half a yard and prevent that run and that pass. Because he doesn't go straight away he gives himself a problem.

'It's impossible (the angle). If he reacts defensively quicker he stops that. That said, lovely ball from Mudryk.'

The Brazilian returned to the starting XI to face Chelsea after being dropped previously, with Marcus Rashford making way for Antony.

On the other side, Alejandro Garnacho made his 27th consecutive start as he looks to have nailed down his place in Erik ten Hag's side.

McCoist is not the first person to tear into Antony in recent weeks, with Man Utd legend Jaap Stam recently criticising the winger.

'From what I've seen from Antony, he's not good enough this level that we're looking for at United,' Stam told the Stick to Football podcast

'Because you're also looking for a player who can have a difficult time and struggle when he comes in, but [we can see] where he is making progress to get to that level.

'When you're looking at Antony now, at this moment, you don't see where he can make the progress to make the next step in the Premier League, to be up there with the top wingers who can make a difference.'

It remains to be seen as to what the future holds for both Antony, and his Man United manager, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe nears his first summer at Old Trafford.

Gareth Southgate has been heavily linked with a move to the club as he could leave England after Euro 2024.
