Man United 'inform long-serving academy coaches they could be among those made redundant' with club set to axe 250 jobs amid Ineos' brutal cost-cutting move

Manchester United have told several academy coaches and staff they might have their jobs cut as part of a club-wide restructure, according to reports.

The men's first-team are departing for their pre-season tour of the United States on Wednesday and have left hundreds of staff who are yet to find out whether their jobs are secure.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS sporting team previously announced up to 250 job cuts will be enforced at Old Trafford as senior executives look to streamline operations.


Employees were informed in a series of meetings on Tuesday which departments and individuals are under threat as part of a mass redundancy process across Old Trafford.

The extreme cost-cutting measures will affect swathes of staff and at least seven individuals from United’s youth set-up were told in meetings they are likely to be amongst the first to be made redundant, as reported by The Athletic.

It was previously revealed up to 250 job cuts will be enforced at Old Trafford in the coming months

Three of the seven informed staff members have been amongst some of United's longest-serving workers after being employed by the 13-time Premier League champions for between 20 to 35 years.

United currently employ a worldwide workforce of of more than 1,100 employees with the majority of positions being filled across Manchester and Salford.

Long-term academy coach Stuart Leicester is believed to be amongst those expected to be offered a severance package and is a popular face around the club's Carrington training base where he has worked with youth team stars for over two decades.

He is joined by Neil Harris who has similarly been coaching at United for over 20 years and previously helped educate Marcus Rashford during his youth years at the club.

Graham Buckingham is amongst the longest-serving employees waiting to hear if he will be cut from his role after joining in 1990 and impressed legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson with his hard work behind the scenes.

Chris Simms, Rick Ashcroft and goalkeeping coach Chris Backhouse, have also been informed there positions are under threat during the restructuring of United's academy.

United's youth team set-up is amongst the best in the world and has been hailed for producing a consecutive turnout of world class talents, most notably the Class of 92' featuring David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt.

Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are two of the most recent graduates who have gone on to become key figures in Erik ten Hag's first team and their national sides respectively.
