Leicester's talismanic captain Jamie Vardy has been urged to continue his 'Hollywood career' and join newly-promoted Wrexham.

Vardy scored 18 Championship goals as Leicester secured a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, finishing top of the pile in Enzo Maresca's first season in the dugout.

As it stands, the striker's contract expires in June but talks are underway to extend his 12-year stay with the Foxes, a stint that saw him so memorably lift the Premier League trophy and also seal an FA Cup in 2021.

Rio Ferdinand is keen to see the 37-year-old remain with Leicester and play in the Premier League for one more season.

But the former Manchester United defender wants to see Vardy join Wrexham if he decides to part ways with the club.

Wrexham continued their rise in English football as they secured promotion to League one

Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: 'He's got to play another season in the Premier League.

'I want to see him get a couple of goals in the Premier League, it's nice. The only club I'd like him to go to if he leaves is Wrexham.'

Asked why a move to Wrexham would suit Vardy, Ferdinand added: 'It's got that Hollywood feel and he's had a bit of a Hollywood career. Started from the bottom now we're here, and he wants to reverse that.'

Vardy moved to the King Power Stadium from non-league Fleetwood Town in 2012 and has gone on to have a career straight out of a Hollywood film - ironic given the owners vocation at his next possible destination.

Wrexham, owned by Hollywood A-Listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, saw their own fairy tale rise back up the football pyramid continue this season and they enjoyed a second successive promotion.

Phil Parkinson's side finished second behind Stockport County on their return to League Two and will be playing in the third tier next season.

The Welsh club's director Humphrey Ker didn't ruled out the possibility of the Red Dragons making an audacious move for Vardy

Speaking earlier this month, he said: 'There's nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn't be a great Wrexham player. It's not a name I've had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn't put us off.'

Vardy believes he can continue playing past his 40th birthday and his performances this term mean he is likely to have alternative offers.
