Brentford star Ivan Toney is not currently viewed by Manchester United as a realistic signing this summer.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from west London with interest from a number of top flight clubs.

Toney has a year remaining on his current deal with the Bees and talks over a new contract have not taken place.

Reports had claimed that Man United are interested in signing the forward as the club looks to strength Erik ten Hag's attacking options.

Mail Sport understands Toney is not viewed as realistic at this stage, with Man United having announced the signing of Joshua Zirkzee on Sunday.

Man United confirmed the £36.5m signing of Dutch international Joshua Zirkzee on Sunday

Zirkzee is Man United manager Erik ten Hag's first signing of the summer transfer window

The Red Devils have paid £36.5m for the Netherlands international, more than his £34m release clause at Bologna, with the agreement meaning they can pay the fee over three years instead of in one lump sum.

Following the arrival of Zirkzee, Man United are unlikely move for another striker in the window unless they are significant departures from the forward line.

This would not include Mason Greenwood, with Ligue 1 side Marseille currently leading the chase for the striker.

Man United and Marseille have held talks over a £27m deal with a substantial sell-on offer. Serie A side Lazio are still interested in Greenwood.

Toney has made no secret of his ambitions to play for an elite side and even reiterated his desire to do as much earlier this year.

In an exclusive interview with Mail Sport, Toney said: 'Everyone knows that I would love to play for a top team and be at the top of the leagues, playing with the best.

'I am a Brentford player at the moment and until that time comes, whether it is this window or at the end of the season or whenever it does happen, then so be it, but right now I am a Brentford player and that's my focus.'

A move for the England forward is unlikely unless Man United make significant summer sales

Toney is currently with the England squad at Euro 2024, where he made a telling impact against Slovakia to help the Three Lions on their way to the final.

While Man United having sealed the signing of Zirkzee and continuing their pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, the club and Erik ten Hag also admire another Dutchman in Xavi Simons.

The club are yet to firm up their interest in the 21-year-old, who scored against England in the Euro 2024 semi-final on Wednesday.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is expected to move to Germany, with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig among the interested clubs.
