Ten Hag: United must be ruthless
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to Sky Sports...
'We have to kill [games]. We are creating lots of chances but we don't finish enough. I'm worried when we don't create chances. I know we have players who can finish. We have plenty of good finishers.
'Last week he [Marcus Rashford] scored three goals so he's in a good direction. Now he has to make the last step.
'Every season it's the same [debate about Bruno Fernandes] and at the end of the season Bruno created the most chances in the Premier League and scores a lot of goals. I'm not worried.
'I like how Spurs play. It's so intense and so attractive.'
Solanke finds his feet
Dominic Solanke, Spurs' record £65million signing, looks to have settled into his new surroundings - both on and off the pitch.
Now with two goals under his belt, the versatile striker will look to prove himself in the upper reaches of the Premier League.
Speaking ahead of today's game, he insisted Spurs 'are not scared of anyone' and that they will look to play on the front foot at Old Trafford.
'One of the reasons why I was so delighted to come to Tottenham was the play style,' he said. 'It suits me. I love it.
'When the team is playing well, we can dominate games. The way that we play will create chances for me.'
Inside the devil's den...
Ugarte gets the nod
No pressure, son! It's all eyes on this man.
Manuel Ugarte, who joined United from PSG in the final knockings of deadline day, makes his first Premier League start today.
Harry Maguire misses out due to a knock picked up in training, meaning Matthijs de Ligt has come into the XI.
Marcus Rashford and Ugarte are the two changes from the side that drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace last weekend.
Postecoglou: Son wasn't ready
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports...
'Short turnaround [for Son], he just wasn't right for today so we go in without him. We've had those things a fair bit.
'We just have to learn to cope without.
'Timo [Werner] is most comfortable in that position. We brought him into the club for situations like this.
'Facing a big club, iconic stadium, plenty of attention - these are the kind of games you want to be involved in.
'We won the last three. Results have been mixed but performances haven't been too bad. I'm pretty happy with how we're playing.'
'United can exploit weaknesses'
Mail Sport columnist DANNY MURPHY, previewing the game...
United are a club used to playing their way and blowing away the opposition but they aren't good enough to rely on that any more.
While fans might consider it a negative approach, Erik ten Hag needs to find a plan that factors in the strengths and weaknesses of Tottenham - otherwise there's every chance they’ll lose.
I hope for his sake he's been working on making special provision to stop James Maddison dictating the game - and exploiting the obvious weakness of Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario at set-pieces.
I've watched a lot of Spurs this season and think Maddison has been excellent after missing out on the Euros.
Ten Hag: United work in progress
Erik ten Hag has admitted his side are still far from the finished article after they prioritised splashing out on young players.
Speaking earlier in the week, he said: 'I think you have to assess the situation. Still we are working, we are in progress.
'We have to sign players. We also made a choice to sign very young players. Like last year (Rasmus) Hojlund, like this year (Joshua) Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.
'We believe in them in this moment but also for the future. We have to build them. When I started we spoke about more, we have to make a switch there in the dressing room and I think we turned a corner.
'Now we have to work with the squad and that takes time.
'Of course, I am also - it’s not a good behaviour from me - impatient and I want to go straight forward.'
Tottenham team news
Spurs XI: Vicario, Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie, Maddison, Bentancur, Kulusevski, Johnson, Solanke, Werner
There we go. The big news has been confirmed. Son Heung-min misses out entirely today after suffering a hamstring issue.
Timo Werner has been handed his first Premier League start of the season while Richarlison is absent.
Yves Bissouma is on the bench.
Man United team news
United XI: Onana, Mazraoui, de Ligt, Martinez, Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo, Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford, Zirkzee
Erik ten Hag has opted for Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo as his midfield two with Christian Eriksen dropping to the bench.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have got the nod on the wings after their impressive recent performances.
Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund are among the substitutes.
Reporting for duty
Let's focus on this man for a second.
Erik ten Hag has won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup during his two-year spell at Old Trafford so far but the pressure is on again.
United have started the season slowly and despite some improvements in play style, his side look toothless in attack.
Will he be given time by the hierarchy to turn the ship around? Today's result could go a long way to deciding that...
Also - Erik, loving the flat cap.
Son ruled out
We'll start with a big bit of breaking news.
Tottenham will be without Son Heung-min this afternoon, as revealed by Mail Sport in the past hour or so.
He is believed to be struggling with a hamstring complaint.
Son came off against Qarabag in mid-week.
Afternoon!
Welcome along, all! How are you?
I've been looking forward to this one all day.
It's Manchester United vs Tottenham, two of the Premier League's great titans, up against each other at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag will be desperate for a good result after a sluggish start to the season for United while Ange Postecoglou will want a win, too.
Stay tuned right here for all the build-up and regular updates!
