Manchester United winger Antony was left baffled after he was told to play at left-back towards the end of the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal.

Erik ten Hag's men suffered their 14th loss of a dismal campaign to dent their hopes of qualifying for Europe next season.

Antony was left on the bench in favour of Amad Diallo, who impressed in his first Premier League start for the club.

He eventually came on to replace the Ivorian in the 70th minute as United chased an equaliser against the Gunners.

The Brazilian failed to make an impact and was then told to play at left-back after Aaron Wan-Bissaka came off with three minutes remaining on the clock.

The Brazilian (L) Antony had failed to make an impact after coming on against Arsenal

The former Ajax star slowly made his way across the pitch and look around in confusion before standing next to Gabriel Jesus, who was playing on the ring wing for Arsenal.

Antony's latest poor display came after former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher slammed him following United's 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Sky Sports pundit got riled up by footage of the winger in dialogue with team-mates Mason Mount and Andre Onana after the full-time whistle.

'Just get off the pitch!' Carragher yelled. 'Whispering behind your hand, you’ve been absolutely awful.

Antony has failed to come anywhere close to repaying the £86million spent to sign him from Ajax in 2022.

The 24-year-old has followed up a limp debut campaign with an even worse season in which he has registered two goal contributions in 29 league games.
