Marco Reus is considering a free transfer to the MLS after the Champions League final next month, as St. Louis SC hold 'preliminary talks' with the Borussia Dortmund legend, per a report.

According to The Athletic, the 34-year-old has a wide array of options on the table as he looks set to conclude his career abroad.

He has been linked with clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but also one of Missouri's major cities due to his close friendship with St. Louis goalkeeper Roman Burki, who spent seven years at Dortmund before joining the MLS side in 2022.

But, St. Louis have yet to put Reus on their discovery list, sources told The Athletic, which emphasizes how early in the process talks are. In MLS, teams can only sign players after placing them on a 'discovery list.' Clubs have limited space on their discovery list.

Reus, who turns 35 this month, helped Dortmund reach the 2013 Champions League final and also won three DFL-Supercups and two DFB-Pokals.

Marco Reus, who turns 35 later this month, will be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer

The attacking midfielder is linked to St. Louis due to his close friendship with GK Roman Burki

He served as club captain from 2018 until 2023 and scored 150 goals for the club. The attacking midfielder, who can be deployed as a winger, is one of three players to have reached 100 Bundesliga goals and assists each.

He was also voted German Football of the Year twice, as well as Bundesliga Player of the Season thrice.

Reus has 48 caps with the Germany national team. Hindered by injury throughout his career, he missed the 2014 World Cup, which German won, Euro 2016 and 2018, and the 2022 World Cup, but played in Euro 2012 and the 2018 World Cup.

Former France and Manchester City player Sami Nasri claims that he knows where Reus will end up this summer.

He told Canal+: 'I talked to Marco Reus. He said he loves football too much to quit right now and will go to MLS next season.'
