A European football club has reportedly emerged as the 'front runner' to sign Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood

The Sun claims that the 22-year-old, who has spent the last season on loan at Getafe, is 'edging closer to leaving the Red Devils'.

It comes after Greenwood, who was also named Getafe's player of the season, issued a statement on his Instagram last week appearing to bid farewell to the LaLiga club, following the conclusion of his loan spell.

'Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season,' he wrote on Instagram.

'Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club.

Speculation is mounting over Mason Greenwood's future, following the conclusion of his Getafe loan deal

The 22-year-old (front) scored 10 times across all competitions for the Spanish side this season

It is understood that Man United and Sir Jim Ratcliffe (centre) are working to sell the forward

'A bittersweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you. I wish you all the best.'

While Getafe had been keen for him to stay for another season, speculation has grown over where the United academy graduate will move to next.

Mail Sport previously reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his leadership group were working towards selling the forward with his contract set to expire in 2025.

Greenwood has been attracting interest from clubs around Europe, with several Premier League sides having expressed an interest in signing him, while Napoli had 'made contact with United to express an interest in the player,' according to The Athletic

The Sun now claims that Juventus are leading the way to sign the forward and state that the Serie A side have been watching Greenwood since Christmas.

The outlet adds that a number of scouts have travelled to watch him play at Getafe and were impressed by his performances, with Greenwood having returned 10 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Borussia Dortmund are another club that appear to be interested in signing the 22-year-old and will make a decision on whether to sign him after Saturday's Champions League final.

According to The Sun, Juventus are now 'leading the way' to sign the Man United loanee

The outlet claims that Greenwood is 'edging closer to an Old Trafford exit' with his contract set to expire in 2025

In October 2022, Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour. The case against him was dropped in 2023 after key witnesses had withdrawn.

United have also been conducting an internal investigation into the matter and chose to send the £75,000-per-week forward out on loan. He would join Getafe in a season-long deal on transfer deadline day last September.

It was recently reported that the £2million mansion where he used to live had been put up for rent, sparking further speculation over his future at United.
