Matildas fans have chosen to rub salt in the wounds of the women's rugby sevens team following their spectacular collapse in Paris.
The Australians were served a double shock at the Stade de France on Tuesday when defeats to Canada and the United States denied them the chance of leaving Paris with an Olympic Games medal.
It came as a huge blow for the ladies' team who had been expected to at least make the final of the competition having steamrolled their rivals before the semi-final against Canada.
Maddison Levi and her teammates were inconsolable at the final whistle of both games, breaking down into tears in heartbreaking scenes for their families and fans watching back home.
But some Matildas fans have opted not to express their sympathy towards the rugby team, after veteran player Charlotte Caslick sparked a war of words between the two teams before the Olympics began.
Caslick expressed her annoyance at the increased attention given to the football team, despite boasting far fewer accolades than the rugby side.
'I don't know if they [Matildas] will get out of the pool stages,' she told News Corp.
'We [Sevens Rugby] have been at the top of our game for years and years, always up there ... with podium finishes in all of our series. And we probably don't get the recognition [we deserve].

But the rugby team failed to win a medal despite being the strong favourites for gold
'So I think, if we can perform at the Paris Olympics we will really be able to show Australia how great the team is. There's some superstars that deserve accolades that other people [Matildas], are getting.'
Taking to Twitter in the early hours of Wednesday morning, one fan asked Caslick: 'How's that podium-ing working out for ya, sweetheart??
'At least the Matildas play the full-size version of their sport.'
However, Tony Gustavsson's team could be making a premature journey home from Paris, with the Matildas facing an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages.
They were thumped 3-0 in the first game against Germany, before scraping past Zambia in a dramatic 6-5 win on Sunday.
The Matildas need a positive result against pool leaders Team USA to stand a chance of advancing.
