May the odds be ever in your favour! Glastonbury hopefuls claim getting their hands on tickets is like 'the Hunger Games' as they share tactics for the ticket sale release TODAY

10 months ago 42

Glastonbury hopefuls have compared getting tickets for the festival to the 'Hunger Games' as they prepare for the release that goes on sale today, two weeks after a last minute delay.

Festival-goers were left furious after organisers delayed the ticket sale just four hours before it was due to start on Thursday November 2.

The sale was postponed after some customers did not realise their registration had expired or was deleted, their official statement read.

But revellers will be given a second chance today as tickets plus coach travel will go on sale at 6pm this evening.

Meanwhile general admission tickets will go on sale at 9am on Sunday November 19.

Organisers have urged anyone hoping to buy a ticket to check their existing registration immediately or submit a new registration.

Tensions are already brewing ahead of the big day, with users on social media asking others: 'pray for me'.

One person joked: 'Anybody passing a church today pop in and light a candle for us will ya? First release of Glastonbury tickets tonight'.

Another said: 'It's ticket sale day 1 round 1! Glastonbury! Good luck coach fans may the gods be in your favour'.

A third shared some images of the Glastonbury scenes, alongside the caption: 'Good luck to everyone trying in the coach sales this evening. Here's a few peaceful scenes to calm the nerves'.

The hotly-anticipated festival will be taking place from Wednesday June 26 to Sunday June 30, 2024.

Last year, revellers enjoyed the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses and Elton John, who played his last ever UK gig on the Pyramid stag to close the 2023 edition of the festival.

Rick Astley, Lil Nas X, Blondie, Lizzo and Aitch were joined by hundreds more performers across the weekend.

Madonna, Dua Lipa and Coldplay are the first rumoured headliners that are expecting to step on stage next year, The Mail on Sunday exclusively revealed.

After months of discussion, the three iconic singers are reportedly set to appear on the Pyramid Stage, though the official line-up hasn't yet been revealed.

One festival insider said: 'It's the dream line-up, a brilliant mix of different music and different atmospheres. Then, of course, you have Madonna on the final night, which will be epic.'

If she takes to the stage in 2024, it will be the first time that Madonna, 65, has performed at the festival, which is held at Worthy Farm, Somerset. If Dua, 28, performs, it will be her first appearance as a headline act.

Coldplay are said to be in the running to headline on the Saturday.

Coldplay have headlined four times before – in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016.

Glastonbury bosses have been accused of choosing too many male acts to headline. Last year the line-up was all male, with Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses and Sir Elton John taking the top slots.

Madonna is said to be in the running to close the music extravaganza on the last night, according to the Mail On Sunday.

Speaking last month, organiser Emily Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, revealed that a huge US star's team, believed to be Madonna's, had got in touch with her saying that she was free.

She said: '2024 is still a little up in the air, and I thought it was taking shape, then last week I just got a call, and this is what happens if you wait a little longer, because often we'll be booked up from July.

'This year we're holding out for a little bit longer and last week I got a call from a really big American artist saying this person's around next year, and I was like, 'Oh my God, this is incredible.' Thank God we held the slot.'

Fans were left devastated after the initial ticket sale was delayed.

A statement from the festival organisers on X read: 'This year's Glastonbury ticket sale has been moved back by two weeks. This is to ensure that everyone who would like to buy a ticket is registered and therefore eligible to purchase one.'

'Following this year's Festival, we alerted everyone with a registration which pre-dated 2020 of a scheduled review of the details held by See Tickets in the Glastonbury Festival registration database.

'This was in order to ensure that the details we hold are current and that we do not store individuals' information for any longer than is necessary. These registrants were asked to take action to confirm their registration if they wished to keep it.

'As always, registration was then closed on Monday (30th October) ahead of the ticket sale. Unfortunately, it has come to light that some individuals hoping to buy tickets for 2024 have discovered after Monday's registration deadline that they are no longer registered, despite believing they were.

'Out of fairness to those individuals, we will be re-opening the window for registration at 12 noon on Monday, 6th November. It will remain open until 5pm on Monday, 13th November.

'We urge everyone hoping to buy a ticket to Glastonbury 2024 to either check their existing registration now or submit new registration, which remains free of charge (link in bio) from 12 noon on Monday.

'We apologise for the late change to the ticket sale dates, but we want to ensure that everyone who would like to buy a ticket for next year's Festival is able to confirm their registration ahead of the sale.'
