Bayern Munich collapsed to a humbling defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, leaving social media users ruthlessly poking fun at Harry Kane

Superstar Kane, chasing his first-ever major trophy in Germany this season, was helpless to prevent his side being thumped and falling three points behind top spot.

Omar Marmoush opened the scoring after just 12 minutes, with shambolic defending from the visitors allowing the forward to chest the ball down and slot home.

The showdown then went from bad to worse for Thomas Tuchel's heavyweights, Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe picking up the ball after a long punt forward and rifling in.

Five minutes later, and Frankfurt sensationally netted their third.

Frankfurt scored three goals in the first half and blew their opponents away after the break

Another error from Bayern, this time from a sloppy and intercepted Joshua Kimmich pass, released Frankfurt on the counter, before Hugo Larsson slotted in with aplomb.

Joshua Kimmich pulled one back on the stroke of half-time to hand Bayern a glimmer of hope, but Frankfurt flew out of the traps after the restart to rack up a fourth goal.

Ebimbe, notching his double, was teed up by Fares Chaibi down the left, with the former clipping over Manuel Neuer to restore the home team's three-goal cushion.

On the hour mark, Frankfurt rounded off the scoring, Ansgar Knauff latching onto a looping, loose ball on the right of the box and slotting across stopper Neuer.

The offside flag was raised, though a brief VAR check allowed the effort to stand.

The full-time whistle brought an end to Bayern's humiliation and confirmed that, with 13 games played, Xabi Alonso's swashbuckling Bayer Leverkusen occupied top spot.

Several social media accounts took the opportunity to tear into a red-faced Kane.

'Harry Kane trophy curse might be true,' one user said, with a skull emoji.

'The Kane curse,' another posted alongside three crying laughing faces.

A third shared the latest league table and added: 'The Kane curse is real'.

Kane came closest to finally lifting his first ever trophy at Euro 2020, with England losing to Italy in the final, and with Spurs in the 2019 Champions League final

Tuchel will hope for a response against lowly Manchester United in the Champions League

Bayern return to action in the Champions League on Tuesday with a trip to a struggling Manchester United outfit standing on the cusp of elimination.

One user believes, however, that the 5-1 drubbing may have handed Erik ten Hag a welcome glimpse at a tactical plan capable of beating Tuchel's giants.

'Frankfurt are showing Manchester United how to beat Bayern Munich,' they said.

'Bayern Munich losing 5-1? Manchester United are not ready for Tuesday night's Champions League game,' a fifth user warned.
