The Mets' Jorge Lopez melted down on Wednesday night as he got ejected, threw his glove into the stands and called his ballclub 'the worst team in the whole f***ing MLB.'
Lopez was on the mound in the eighth inning of the Mets' eventual 10-3 loss to the Dodgers when he was ejected by third base umpire Ramon De Jesus for arguing a check swing call on Shohei Ohtani.
From there, he launched his glove over the netting into the stands - a move which Mets manager Carlos Mendoza later called 'not acceptable - and did not apologize for his actions after the game.
When asked by SNY reporter Steve Gelbs if he regretted throwing his glove into the stands, Lopez said 'no,' before adding he was on 'the worst team in probably the whole f***ing MLB.'
'Whatever happened, happened,' he continued. 'Whatever they wanna do. I'll be [here tomorrow] if they want me.'
Jorge Lopez launched his glove into the stands after being ejected on Wednesday night
The pitcher, seen on May 13, called the Mets 'the worst team in f****ng MLB' after the game
Later asked to clarify if he indeed meant what he said - as the Puerto Rican pitcher is not a native English speaker - Lopez said he did.
'Yeah, probably, it look[s] like [we are the worst team].
Later, MLB.com's Anthony DiComo said that Lopez explained his remarks to mean 'the worst teammate on the worst team.'
Regardless, Lopez's days with the Mets appear to be over as the franchise will designate him for assignment tomorrow, according to multiple reports.
That means he'll immediately be removed from the team's 40-man roster.
Lopez's (soon-to-be-former) teammate Francisco Lindor echoed Mendoza's comments after the game.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Lopez's actions were 'not acceptable' following the loss
'It definitely doesn't look good,' he said of the glove toss. 'If our manager says it's unacceptable, it's unacceptable.
The Mets have had an absolutely wretched month of May, with their record at 7-20 in that span after their latest defeat.
They'll look to get back on track tomorrow vs. the Diamondbacks.
