Miami Marlins star Jazz Chisholm slammed his own team on Sunday for its decision to keep the LoanDepot Park retractable roof open during its four-game series to begin the season against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Marlins were swept to open the season by the Pirates at home and are one of only four winless teams left in Major League Baseball.
The Houston Astros and Miami are the only teams to lose their first four games this season, both doing so at home in stadiums with retractable roofs.
The Marlins lost Thursday's season opener and Sunday's contest in extra innings, while Friday and Saturday's losses were lopsided.
The roof was only closed for one of the four games against Pittsburgh.
Chisholm said it was hard to see on the field during the Marlins series with the Pirates
LoanDepot Park has been the Marlins home since 2012 after sharing a venue with the Dolphins
'That we couldn't see,' Chisholm said, in reference to what made playing in the series tough. 'That's all. I feel like the shadows were really — we're not used to playing in shadows. We normally play inside every day.'
'So, when we get a shadow for three of the four games at home for the first time of the season, it's kind of hard to adjust to,' Chisholm added. 'You know, we're used to the roof being closed and being able to see every at-bat.'
'It's kind of tough to see when it's black out there and you're facing a guy throwing 101 (miles per hour), you know?' Chisholm continued.
The shadows also affected the Marlins at the plate, as they were the last team in baseball to not hit a home run this season before a Chisholm first-inning Grand Slam on Sunday.
Miami squandered a 5-0 lead to fall on Sunday, with the team's homestand to start the season continuing through Wednesday.
The Marlins face the Angels in a three-game series with two night games and a 1 p.m. Wednesday start.
Miami has yet to announce where LoanDepot Park's roof will be open for any of the contests.
