Michigan offensive lineman Zak Zinter broke his tibia and fibula during their victory against rival Ohio State on Saturday, his mother has revealed.
Zinter was blocking a defensive rival when another Ohio State player fell forcefully onto his bent leg, with broadcaster FOX refusing to show replays of the gruesome incident which forced him to be carted off the field.
The player's parents raced down to check on their son, while his Michigan teammates left the sideline and walked over to support him.
Zinter was then able to sit up on a stretcher after being given urgent medical attention before receiving a standing ovation by Michigan fans as he was carted off.
Later on Saturday night, the Michigan star's mother Tiffany has provided an update on the injury, confirming he suffered a broken tibia and fibula. The 22-year-old will undergo surgery this evening.
'Update on Zak,' Tiffany wrote on Instagram. 'Headed into surgery now... Please pray for Zak's surgeons, the surgery, a [perfect] recovery and for him to understand the injury! Broken tibia & fibia.'
