Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough respond to getting pulled off air after Donald Trump shooting

2 months ago 23

Furious MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said he was 'very disappointed' that his flagship morning show Morning Joe was pulled off air after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, and threatened to walk out if it happened again.

The decision to yank the show on Monday sparked huge backlash and suggestions it was an admission by NBC that they didn't trust the anchors to cover the horrific shooting.

Scarborough and co-host and wife Mika Brzezinski returned to the air on Tuesday morning, and vented their frustration at the network executives they say blindsided them.

It came hours after Trump was given a rockstar welcome as he walked into the Republican National Convention with a bandage on his right ear, where the bullet fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks ripped through the skin.

'Before we start this hour. Willie (Geist, co-host), I just wanted to briefly talk to our friends and viewers that watch us every day and talk about what happened yesterday,' Scarbrough said.

'We were told, in no uncertain terms on a Sunday evening that there was going to be one news feed across all NBC news channels yesterday, and today’s show would be Lester Holt.

'Other people that, well, you worked with on Sunday and that was going to be one news feed across all NBC news channels that we were going to stay as a network in breaking news mode throughout, all day yesterday.

'That did not happen,' Scarborough added, telling viewers how MSNBC returned to its regular programming which included the first day of the Republican National Convention.

'We don’t know why that was. That didn’t happen.'

'Our team was not given a good answer as to why that didn’t happen, but it didn’t happen. We were also told it was going to happen throughout the day,

'And I guess after there was such a strong blowback about, yesterday morning, I guess they changed their plans.

'And so those plans changed as well. So it didn’t.

'And, you know, we’ve talked about it, off the air.

'We’ll talk about it on the air because we talk about everything on the air. We were very surprised. We were very disappointed. And if we had known that there wasn’t going to be the one news feed, from NBC news across all NBC news channels. Willie, we obviously would have been in yesterday morning.'

Scarborough then said the next time it happens they will be in the chairs covering breaking news, or else the network can get 'somebody else'.
