Mulgathing plane crash: Fears for those on board a light plane that crashed in a paddock on remote station

A light plane has crashed with police and emergency services fearing for those on board.

The aircraft crashed in Mulgathing, about 200 kilometres south-west of Coober Pedy in South Australia, at 9.30am on Thursday.

Details of the number of passengers on board is yet to be confirmed.

'Emergency services are making their way to the scene of the crash and further details will be provided as they become available,' South Australia Police said.

There is a remote sheep station at Mulgathing, in outback South Australia, and is located west of the Stuart Highway and near Tarcoola. 

The 530,000-hectare station also has an airstrip.

On the website of the station's operator Jumbuck Pastoral, a plane is used to 'facilitate mustering' on the property, 'on the fringe of the Great Victorian Desert'.
