Mystery as Brit sailor, 44, taking part in Greek regatta is found dead with head injuries on a pier at holiday island port

 A 44-year-old British sailor has been mysteriously found dead on the pier of the old port of the Greek island of Spetses.

Coastguard authorities said the Englishman, who was spotted by the crew of a passing vessel, was found in a bay area od the island with what appeared to be injuries on the left side of his head. 

According to Greek media and authorities, the 44-year-old was a crew member taking part in the Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta running from June 26 to June 29. 

According to Star GR, the man's body will be transferred to the city of Piraeus on the mainland for an autopsy.

Port authorities are investigating the incident.
