NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal opens refurbished basketball court at a Boys & Girls Club in LA before spending the afternoon playing with the children

Shaquille O'Neal has been retired from the NBA since 2011, but that doesn't mean he stopped putting effort into the game of basketball. 

This week, O'Neal opened a refurbished basketball court at a Boys & Girls Club in Los Angeles, per TMZ. 

O'Neal has opened several of his 'Comebaq Court' venues around the country, including in his native Newark, New Jersey, Miami, and Atlanta. 

'I came here one time and I saw the court need to be refurbished,' O'Neal told TMZ. 'I asked about the refurbish. They told me "yes" and this is the result.' 

'If we can help one, if we can help 100, we can help 'em all,' O'Neal added. 

O'Neal's 'Comebaq Court' initiative is part of the Shaquille O'Neal Foundation. The initiative's goal is to give better playing surfaces of different kinds to kids around the United States. 

O'Neal played in the NBA for 19 years, spending 1996-2004 with the Los Angeles Lakers, his longest tenure with any franchise. 

In his time as a Laker, O'Neal won three NBA championships, all alongside the late Kobe Bryant from 2000-02. 

While O'Neal gets a lot of thanks for his work in the community, the 7-foot-1 behemoth is quick to give thanks to others. 

'Those counselors, the one who volunteers every day, they actually should get most of the credit,' O'Neal said. 

'If you need computers, you need laptops, fresh paint — then you call Uncle Shaq,' O'Neal added.
