The Netherlands and France played out the first goalless draw of Euro 2024 after Xavi Simons saw a goal controversially ruled out for the Dutch.

Simons swept home inside the penalty area on 69 minutes to spark wild celebrations before his strike was chalked off after a lengthy VAR check.

The linesman's flag was raised for offside with Denzel Dumfries adjudged to have impeded goalkeeper Mike Maignan as he dived low to his left.

France had earlier missed a golden opportunity to take control of Group D, Antoine Griezmann failing to sort his feet after Adrien Rabiot opted to tee him up.

The draw means both France and the Netherlands are on four points with Ralf Rangnick's Austria narrowly behind in third after their victory over Poland.
