Violent scenes erupted after England's Euro 2024 semi-final victory over the Netherlands on Wednesday evening, but it was groups of fans supporting the same nation that clashed in the fan zone.

Dortmund was awash with orange shirts pre-match as Dutch fans showcased their iconic support in the German city, but tempers quickly flared in the aftermath of defeat as footage on social media shows.

Police have been determined to clamp down on fan violence during Germany's hosting of the competition, but some violence has spilled out into the streets at times involving England fans.


Netherlands supporters watching in the fan zone were deal an agonising defeat when Ollie Watkins came off the bench to score a 90th minute winner for the Three Lions,

His goal booked England's spot in a second consecutive European Championship final with a Sunday meeting with Spain set to decide the champion.

Fans without a ticket in Germany are encouraged to watch from the official fan zones as thousands gathered to watch the match before fights broke out amongst a small group.

Bizarrely, it was Netherlands supporters fighting each other as punches were thrown while the match played out in the background.

Drinks were also thrown during the scuffle while others in the vicinity attempted to calm the sudden outbreak and some watched on fearful of becoming involved.

Violent scenes in the streets of Dortmund earlier in the day when five England fans were left injured following a series of attacks.

UK Police previously warned that groups of 'risk supporters' were known to be among the 80,000 strong Dutch support that descended on the German city, and warned England fans to seek refuge in areas populated by police.

Several Dutch fans were arrested and taken away by police following altercations that required heavily protected police personnel to be drafted in as violence threatened to spill over.

England fans travelling to Berlin on Sunday will be hoping to avoid any outbreaks of similar scenes with an expected even heavier presence of police in the German capital for the tournament finale.

The Three Lions are expected to be roared on by thousands of travelling supporters who are hoping to see history made as the nation's men's team bids to lift a first piece of major international silverware since 1966.
