Ben Simmons is set to miss time for the Brooklyn Nets after being diagnosed with nerve irritation on the lower left side of his body, according to his agent Bernie Lee.

'Ben had an MRI in the last couple of days, and it's shown us he's experiencing some nerve irritation on the lower left side of his body which is going to cause him to miss to some time as he rehabs and builds himself back,' Lee told the New York Post.

'He's not experiencing anything similar to what he's gone through in the past. This is something that the expectation is that with the proper kind of rehab he'll be able to resume his season in a short period of time without any issue.'

Simmons missed a large amount of time last season after undergoing surgery on multiple herniated disks on the right side of his back before suffering a nerve impingement. The current injury is not expected to require surgery or be nearly as severe as the one he dealt with last season.

The Nets also released a statement regarding the injury that read: 'Nets guard/forward Ben Simmons, who has missed the past three games with a left hip contusion, underwent an MRI due to lingering discomfort in the area.'

Last year Simmons played in only 42 games for the Nets due to problems with his back

'The imaging revealed a nerve impingement in the lower left side of his back. Simmons will continue to receive treatment on both his hip and back. A status update will be provided in one week.'

The 27-year-old has been burdened by injuries throughout his career and has missed two full seasons between his time with the Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Simmons missed what was supposed to be his rookie season in 2016 with a foot injury and also missed his first season in Brooklyn with back problems.

He appeared in only 42 games last year for the Nets, before playing six games this year.

Before being sidelined Simmons averaged 6.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists this season.
