Newcastle have reportedly held talks with Eddie Howe regarding his future at the club amid speculation he will succeed Gareth Southgate as England boss.
After Southgate stepped down following the Three Lions' defeat in the Euro 2024 final, Howe quickly emerged as the bookies' favourite to take the vacant role.
The 46-year-old added fuel to the fire last week when he expressed concerns about his ability to continue at St James' Park following a change in the club's management structure this summer.
Howe insisted he was happy to remain at Newcastle, but added that he must be 'free to work in the way I want to work' in order to remain at the helm.
According to a report from The Telegraph, Howe's comments alarmed club chiefs and led to a meeting to clarify his position at the club.

The talks were said to be led by club CEO Darren Eales, with the manager offered assurances that he will remain a key figure in the Magpies' transfer policy amid the recent addition of sporting director Paul Mitchell.
Howe is also said to have been promised that he will receive backing in the transfer market despite having narrowly missed out on securing European football last season.
The discussions intended to clear the air have reportedly placated Howe, and the club are confident that he will remain in charge for the coming campaign despite the ongoing England speculation.
Outgoings are also said to have been discussed, with England international Kieran Trippier believed to be on his way out of the club amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson could all also be set for departures this summer.
After enjoying a variety of successes across two spells at Bournemouth, Howe replaced Steve Bruce as Newcastle manager in November of 2021 just weeks after the Saudi Public Investment Fund completed their takeover.
Potential outgoings are also said to have been discussed, with a number of players including Kieran Trippier expected to leave this summer
In his first full season in charge Howe led Newcastle to fourth in the Premier League and in doing so secured Champions League football for the club for the first time in two decades.
Drawn in a group of death including Borussia Dortmund, PSG and AC Milan, the Magpies were eliminated at the group stage last season but not before securing a memorable 4-1 win over the French champions at St James' Park.
