The newest New Orleans Saint, quarterback Spencer Rattler, was only available for the team's selection in the fifth round of the NFL Draft because team general managers reportedly hated him on the Netflix reality show 'QB1: Beyond the Lights'.
The former Oklahoma and South Carolina star was picked No 150 overall, ending the longest streak in NFL Draft history without a quarterback being chosen, as 137 players were selected in between Rattler and now-Bronco Bo Nix.
Before his college days, Rattler was one of the top players in the nation as part of the 2019 recruiting class, and was the top-rated pro-style quarterback, per 247Sports.
That led to plenty of attention coming his way, including from Netflix. At Pinnacle (Arizona) High School, Rattler had a reputation as the best player in his state.
And after Rattler found a home with the Saints, clips resurfaced of him reaming out his wide receivers during a high-school practice.

— DANA (@iam_DanaScott) August 17, 2019'This is kind of weird to say honestly, Spencer Rattler did a reality show in high school. It's called "QB1: Beyond the Lights." It did not make him look great,' NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said.
'And it is unbelievable how many different teams mentioned to me the image of him in that show, and how they can't get it out of their heads, which I think would be a public service announcement to all 17 year olds,' Rapoport continued. 'It is fascinating as teams weighted whether to draft him.'
Rattler appeared on season three of 'QB1: Beyond The Lights' alongside Lance Legendre, who subsequently moved to wide receiver and plays at Louisiana, and Nik Scalzo, who played at FCS-level Samford last year.
The show ran for four seasons with Justin Fields as arguably the biggest star to appear as a prep prospect.
Bruce Young and Anthony Richardson also appeared on the show during their high school days.
Rattler was once viewed as a possible choice to be the top pick in this year's draft. He was supplanted by eventual top selection Caleb Williams at Oklahoma, and had a shaky career after transferring to South Carolina that plummeted his draft stock.
