Nick Kyrgios has announced that he would like to swap the tennis court for the boxing ring when his playing career is over, with the Aussie promising to 'call out a few people'.

The Wimbledon men's singles finalist has only played one match on the ATP Tour since October 2022, with serious injuries to his knee and wrist keeping him sidelined for a lengthy duration.

The 29-year-old has indicated that his recovery is going well and he will be back on the court soon with 'fire in his belly'.

On Monday night, Kyrgios conducted a Q&A on his Instagram page and answered various questions from fans.

One fan asked the former world No.13 if he would take a boxing fight and Kyrgios replied that he was very interested in the idea.

'Yeah I would, at the end of my tennis career,' said Kyrgios.

'There are a couple of people I'd call out.'

One fan then asked him if he would take on broadcaster Piers Morgan, who he has clashed with in the past.

'Nah we are friends now!' said the Aussie.

Kyrgios's divisive antics would make any boxing match featuring him a sure-fire money spinner for promoters - and one person he might want to call out is former arch rival Bernard Tomic, who challenged him to a boxing match in 2022.

Tomic said he wanted to settle the long-running grudge between the pair with a tennis match - or on the basketball court or in a boxing ring.

'First things first, let's set the record straight here,' Tomic said in a video.

Kyrgios had a public war of words with Bernard Tomic (pictured left) in 2022 where the idea of a boxing bout between them was spoken about

'Our current score is 1-0, I beat you once before, I'll beat you again whenever you want. I dominate you every time we play, we train, and you know that.

'You say you're good at basketball, I'll beat you at that too.

'Tennis? I'll dominate you one-on-one. To not make excuses, I'll even play you on grass, whenever you want.

'You know what? Let's sort this out in the boxing ring. Put your gloves on, I'll dominate you there also. Let's see who's better once and for all.'

Kyrgios responded by saying Tomic needs to get back into form on the tennis court first - but did leave open the door to a potential boxing match at the end of his career.

'Maybe one day my brother we can later on when my career winds down,' Kyrgios said.

'But I'm too occupied at the moment bro, preparing for tournaments like Wimbledon and stuff. I hope everything is well, let's put this to bed. I'll verse you when I verse you if you can get back to the top and to the main tour.

'But as for now, I think you've got some bigger life challenges ahead brother, so best of luck.'
