Partygoers have slammed cops after their massive beach rave was shutdown in Sydney's ritzy eastern suburbs.

Hundreds of revellers gathered at Ben Buckler Reserve, North Bondi, on Sunday afternoon.

NSW Police said they were called to the scene at about 4.20pm after receiving reports from council about the 'unauthorised event'.

It is understood the location of the raves are not publicly available and can only be found in a private WhatsApp group.

Hundreds of revellers gathered at Ben Buckler Reserve, North Bondi, for a rave on Sunday afternoon

People found out about Sunday's secret sunset party via social media, including from Instagram reels and TikTok videos.

Footage uploaded to TikTok showed a large crowd of mostly young people gathered at the picturesque spot, dancing to music played by a DJ.

But the party atmosphere was dampened by the arrival of police late in the afternoon.

'A large number of people were in attendance and with the assistance of additional police from nearby commands, officers enforced the alcohol prohibited area,' a police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

'The crowd complied and had dispersed by 9pm with no arrests made.'

Sydney dance music event account Bondi Lines blasted police for breaking up the rave.

'Surely we should be able to put some DJs on in a public space on a Sunday arvo. Shocker,' they wrote.

Social media users joined in to express their frustration at the shutting down of the event.

'The fun police on it again,' one said, sharing a clip of seven officers at the rave.

'Oh no no no, you can't have people gathering in the name of merriment,' another said.

While a third stated: 'Welcome to Australia’s totalitarian control'.

Police attended the event and said the crowd had dispersed by 9pm with no arrests made

Others were pleased to see the police presence.

'Pure cringe fest glad it was shutdown my eyes couldn't handle it anymore,' one said.

'The beach is a public place, with this crowd there is no room for families, swimming. Who cleans up after them, where are the facilities, insurance?' another asked.

The anonymous event organiser hit back, declaring their next event would would top Sunday's party.

'I have to find a way to do this party without the police throwing us out,' they wrote.

'The next party will be in another spot so be aware this does not end.

'This will be massive, see you next time.'

A similar rave at North Bondi earlier this month managed to escape police attention.
