Jamal Murray made an 'inexcusable and dangerous' decision during the Nuggets' Game 2 loss to the Timberwolves as he threw a heat pack onto the court during a live play.

Murray struggled mightily throughout the game, shooting just 3-of-18 from the field with four turnovers as Minnesota eased to a 106-80 win and a 2-0 series lead.

And Murray's frustration boiled over in the first half with the defending champions losing 37-20.

The heat pack landing on the court did not stop Karl-Anthony Towns from converting a layup for Minnesota, but his coach Chris Finch criticized Murray's actions after the game.

'It's inexcusable and dangerous,' he continued. 'I'm sure it was just a mistake and an oversight. I'm sure there was nothing intentional by the officiating at all. But certainly can't allow that to happen.'

Jamal Murray could be seen tossing a heat pack on the court during Game 2 on Monday

Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch called the decision 'inexcusable and dangerous'

He continued. 'I didn't actually see it happen. And the way it was explained to me, the referees didn't see it either. So they're not able to issue a technical unless they see it. We tried to impress upon them there probably aren't many fans in the building who have a heat pack, so it probably had to come from the bench. Which they found logical.

Murray was not penalized for the incident during the game, but could face a suspension for Game 3.

Nuggets coach Michael Malone was also fortunate to avoid a technical foul when he stormed on the court and berated a referee during the first quarter.

Towns said after the game of Murray's heat pack toss, 'I saw it. I was just more worried about making the layup.'

Murray shot just 3-of-18 in the game and left the arena without speaking to media afterwards

His teammate Anthony Edwards added, 'I didn't know it was thrown onto the court. That's crazy.'

Murray, meanwhile did not speak with the media after the loss.

After an opening-round sweep over the Lakers, the Nuggets have found themselves in peril, as the series will now head to Minnesota for the next two games after Denver dropped the first two contests at home.

The last repeat NBA champion was the Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
