LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne was proud of boyfriend Paul Skenes for his performance for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday afternoon.

Skenes had thrown seven innings of a no-hitter, but after tossing 99 pitches, he was pulled for inning number eight.

On the red carpet at the ESPYs, Dunne reacted to the news about Paul's success on the mound that afternoon.

'You know what, it would have been a cool accolade to say that you threw a no-hitter your rookie year.

'But also you got to make that arm last long, so I don't blame them.'

Olivia Dunne offered her thoughts on boyfriend Paul Skenes nearly throwing a no-hitter

Skenes pitched incredibly well, but the Pirates bullpen immediately blew the no-hit shot

Skenes looked less than impressed after being yanked from the game - despite having thrown nearly 100 pitches in his outing.

'Definitely wanted to finish it,' Skenes said postgame. 'Throwing every six days, five days, whatever it is now, I definitely understand that side of it.'

The Pirates then immediately gave up that no-hit effort, blowing it in the eighth inning.

However, they still held on for the 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers as closer Aroldis Chapman shut things down in the ninth inning.

But Skenes has been a superstar for the Pirates - performing much better than their shaky bullpen has.

He's been so good that he's not just been named an All-Star, but he'll be starting the game for the National League.
