Patrick Mahomes has come out to defend his 'Dad bod' amid criticism that he wasn't physically fit last season, as he claims to have a 'great body' for a quarterback due to the amount of hits taken during games.
Speaking to TIME about his cravings for snacks and fast food, including Chick-fil-A, Whataburger (a Texas-based chain) and Starbursts, the 28-year-old, three-time Super Bowl champion revisited a shirtless photo of himself in Kansas City's locker room celebrating the team's AFC championship win over Baltimore.
The snap went viral, stunning fans in the process, as it started an entire new debate on athletes' health, especially when they're in their prime. Mahomes is coming off back-to-back Super Bowls - a feat that hadn't been accomplished since the 2004 Patriots. New England defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX that season and overcame the Panthers to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the year prior.
'I definitely have the dad bod a little bit,' Mahomes told TIME at first before defending his body shape.
'I'll also say I have a great body for a quarterback. You've got to have some padding in there to take the hits that we take.'

Previously, Mahomes' wife and high school sweetheart, Brittany, said her husband eats up to 10 ice creams a night before hitting the hay.
She also revealed that the three-time Super Bowl MVP likes to devour a pack of chips every day before bedtime, too.
As a matter of fact, the couple doesn't run its own errands.
'Our chef does it for us now...,' Brittany wrote in an Instagram Q&A back in Sept., adding that she would go 'nuts' when she would grocery shopping because she would constantly overbuy.

Since Kansas City's latest Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers in February, Mahomes has been enjoying the offseason with his family as they went on vacation to Mexico, where his 'Dad bod' was spotted again while he was by the pool of the resort where he, Brittany, and their two children, Bronze and Sterling, 3, stayed.
Meanwhile, Phase One of the Chiefs' offseason program started on Monday and will last two weeks.
During this window, activities are 'limited to meetings, strength, and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.'
It remains unclear if Mahomes is with the team at this time, or if he was given an extended amount of absence to rest.
