Collingwood legend Peter Daicos achieved plenty in his decorated footy career - but he has revealed how the AFL almost denied him a heartwarming on-field moment with his daughter which he still cherishes.

'As an individual it would be after I retired, I got the opportunity to run a lap with my daughter at the MCG,' Daicos said in the jungle during filming of I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!

'I asked if I could do it and the AFL said no.

'I said to my wife [Colleen], bugger it, just hand her over to me. And as I got halfway around, she handed Maddie over.

'There's a shot of me running around with Maddie....and she looks like Superman with 35 on the back.

After making his VFL debut in 1979, Daicos went onto play 250 games for Collingwood, booting 549 goals

'Then it became a regular thing where players started taking their kids around as part of their retirement.'

Daicos added he feels fortunate he was able to live out his sporting dream with the Magpies - and also felt his 'life was fulfilled being a dad.'

Dubbed the 'Macedonian Marvel', the crafty full forward was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1999 and was also Collingwood's best and fairest player twice - in 1982 and 1988.

Daicos went onto have two more children that Magpies fans adore in equal fashion - brothers Nick and Josh.

The siblings won an AFL premiership last season - just like their old man did in 1990 - to also cement themselves as club legends at Collingwood.

Josh, 25, started playing senior footy in 2017, with Nick, 21, following suit in 2022.
