PLAYER RATINGS: Veteran Mats Hummels shows his class as Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League final... as one PSG star scores just 4.5/10

6 months ago 30

Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the Champions League final as they overcame Paris Saint-Germain.

Dortmund already had a one-goal lead from the first leg and they added to it through Mats Hummels in the 50th minute on Tuesday night.

Despite intense pressure from PSG, Dortmund held on to win 2-0 on aggregate.

Edin Terzic's side will now take on either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the final at Wembley on June 1.

Mail Sport's Pete Jenson assesses how both sets of players performed.

Borussia Dortmund progressed to the Champions League final as they overcame PSG

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN (4-2-3-1)

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 5

Huge early save against Adeyemi. But so inconsequential at corners considering his size, and that cost PSG once more.

Achraf Hakimi – 5.5

Good early incursions down the right but never with a final ball to match. Dived late on for a penalty as PSG got desperate. Guilty of trying to pick out Mbappe in dying minutes instead of going for goal himself.

Marquinhos – 6

Moved the ball quickly forward. Glanced a header wide after good delivery from Kang-In Lee. Tried to hold together PSG’s unconvincing defence.

Lucas Beraldo – 5

Played in place of the injured Luis Hernandez and completely lost Hummels on the goal. Position remains a weakness for the French champions.

Achraf Hakimi should have gone for goal himself late on instead of trying to find Mbappe

Hugely talented youngster Warren Zaire-Emery missed an inviting opportunity to score

Nuno Mendes – 7

Won first one-on-one duel with Sancho. PSG’s best defender and got forward well too.

Warren Zaire-Emery – 6

Lacked conviction as he hit post at the start of second half from a tight angle. So young and so much promise, his chance to reach a Champions League final will come again.

Vitinha – 7.5

PSG’s best player. Hit the frame of the goal late on. Drove Luis Enrique’s side forward and did not deserve to be on the losing side.

Fabian Ruiz – 5

Gave ball away with first pass and that set the tone of his performance. No surprise when he was replaced early in the second half.

Ousmane Dembele – 7

Always willing to run at Dortmund defence and almost won a penalty but nothing really came off for him. Lucky to escape booking for early foul on Maatsen, eventually cautioned in the second half.

Goncalo Ramos – 4.5

Leaned back and blazed over after Vitinha set him up perfectly on the hour. Terrible miss at the worst time just after Dortmund goal. Did the same again moments later with his last kick before being taken off.

Goncalo Ramos was guilty of some costly misses as PSG were knocked out by Dortmund

Kylian Mbappe frequently miscontrolled the ball in the first half but hit the crossbar late on

Kylian Mbappe – 6

Miscontrolled the ball too often in the first half. Selflessly teed-up Dembele before the break but became more desperate after half time. Hit the top of the bar late-on. PSG needed him to pull out a five-star performance. This was not it. A sad au revoir.

Subs: Bradley Barcola (for Ramos 63) – 6.5

Marco Asensio (for Fabian Ruiz 63) – 6.5

Kang-In Lee (For Zaire-Emery 75) 6.5

Manager: Luis Enrique 7

Booked:

BORUSSIA DORTMUND (4-2-3-1)

Gregor Kobel – 6

Saved Mbappe’s first shot without spilling. Safe hands on set-plays. Saved by the frame of the goal when he was beaten.

Julian Ryerson – 7

Early shot into the side netting. Generally dealt well with the threat of Mbappe and made key clearance early in first half.

Mats Hummels – 8.5

The only survivor in Dortmund's starting XI from the last time they were in the final and what a performance to get there again. Took his goal well. Always plays; always class. Second half foul on Demble was smart too, just centimetres outside area.

Mats Hummels put his experience to good use and scored as Dortmund managed to prevail

Former Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen produced an encouraging display as Dortmund won

Nico Schlotterbeck – 7

Never panicked alongside Hummels and with Sule for support too as Dortmund went for five at the back late on.

Ian Maatsen – 7.5

Carries the ball forward from full-back with such a mixture of grace and menace. Defended well too. From Chelsea reserve to Champions League final.

Emre Can – 6.5

Kept it simple and held things together in front of Dortmund defence. Played his part in the yellow wall that kept PSG out.

Marcel Sabitzer – 6

Booked for foul in the second half to stop Barcola running clear. Like Can he must take huge credit for Dortmund’s defensive record.

Karim Adeyemi – 6.5

Had Dortmund’s first shot, well saved by Donnarumma but no real impact and subbed early in the second half.

Julian Brandt – 6.5

Great delivery for the corner that gave Dortmund lead on night. Found space and made the most of it. Always a threat as PSG committed forward.

Julian Brandt was effective in managing to find space for Dortmund and provided a threat

Jadon Sancho couldn't match his first leg performance but still worked hard throughout

Jadon Sancho – 6.5

Some good diagonal runs in the first half. Not the same impact as first leg but worked hard off the ball throughout.

Niclas Fullkrug – 6

Early shot into side netting and lots of hard running.

Subs

Marco Reus (for Adeyemi, 55) – 6.5

Niklas Sule (For Sancho, 67) – 6.5
