Police arrest suspect after manhunt following death of woman found seriously injured at home in West Yorkshire

A man has been arrested following a police manhunt after a woman was found dead in West Yorkshire.

Officers were called to a property in the Ravensthorpe area of Dewsbury at 6.43pm on Sunday where the woman was found seriously injured before she later passed away.

West Yorkshire Police launched a manhunt in the early hours of Monday but a suspect has now been detained and is in custody.

Video footage from the scene yesterday showed a large police presence and a nearby air ambulance.

Dozens of armed police officers were reported to be called to the incident and police cordons were put in place. 

Police last night named a suspect and were desperately trying to find him. 

A statement from West Yorkshire Police last night said: 'Officers have a named suspect and significant enquiries are ongoing to try to find and arrest him.

'While police understand that this incident will cause concern in the local community, this investigation is in its very early stages and members of the public are urged to avoid potentially unhelpful speculation.

'If anyone does have any information that could assist the police in their enquiries, they are asked to contact the police as a matter of urgency.'
