Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead following an assault in a quiet Derbyshire village.

Officers were called to Tibshelf, a village on the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire border, to find a man in his 40s who had suffered serious injuries.

An air ambulance helicopter attended Addison Street along with dozens of police cars and ambulance vehicles, but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder following the incident on Tuesday evening and remains in police custody, Derbyshire Police said.

While the investigation is at an early stage, the force believe the incident is an isolated domestic one.

Locals in the 'tight-knit' community expressed their shock after hearing the news, with one anonymous resident telling DerbyshireLive: 'It's terribly sad for the people of Tibshelf. It's such a quiet place and everyone always looks out for one another.
