An Austin ISD police officer was shot near a high school as the gunman remains on the loose and students are put on lockdown in Austin, Texas.
Gunshots were reportedly heard just before 11am on Tuesday near Northeast Early College High School which is located off Berkman Road and East Highway 290 in northeast Austin.
The Austin ISD Police Department confirmed that the school was placed under lockdown at 11.16am and the campus is safe, KVUE reported.
The officer was shot in the leg near Nelson Field, across from the high school and taken to a local hospital. They are reported to be in stable condition.
Community members have been asked to refrain from coming on campus at this time.
