Police swoop on new stabbing horror in city shopping centre

Horrified bystanders have reportedly witnessed a man stab himself with a knife at a busy shopping centre.

The incident occurred at around 4.30pm at Chullora Marketplace in the western Sydney suburb of Greenacre.

According to a Facebook page tracking emergency services activity 'a mentally ill man took out a knife and start(ed) stabbing himself,'

'No one else is hurt.'

Pictures from the scene showed a man sitting on a bench with officers surrounding him with one having a gloved hand on his neck.

Police have been contacted for comment.
