The Aussie chairman of selectors has revealed that batting prodigy Will Pucovski won't be considered for selection in the short-term as he continues his comeback from concussion and mental health concerns.

Widely touted as one of the country's best rising talents, Pucovski has played just the one Test for Australia, against India, in January 2021.

Along with Cameron Bancroft, Matthew Renshaw, Marcus Harris, the right-hander is one of the contenders to replace David Warner once he retires.

However, the youngster has had 11 concussions throughout his career and has had to have some time away from the sport to recover.

George Bailey, the Australian chairman of selectors, says he is happy seeing Pucovski back playing cricket - but hasn't been in communication with him.

Australian chairman of selectors George Bailey is happy that Pucovski is back playing but needs to see more consistency from the young gun

'No there hasn't (been communication),' he said.

'(I'm) just really happy to see him back playing Shield cricket and hopefully that continues.'

Bailey says he wants to see 'continuity' in Pucovski's game now that he's back playing regularly.

'I saw Will's comments post this last Shield game, and on the back of it I think that's five in a row he's played now,' he said.

'Fingers crossed he can finish the year off. He's talking about there's a real love of the game at the moment and he's keen to go play overseas in the winter which will be great for his game.

'Just that continuity of his cricket will be great for him.'

Pucovski, who recently scored 65 in the second innings against South Australia, admitted he'd like to play in the national team again at some stage.

'Hopefully get a Shield season or two under my belt and then maybe worry about the Australian side. '
