World Cup winner Olga Carmona was the hero for Real Madrid on a trying night for English champions Chelsea at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Wednesday evening.

Carmona recorded the home side's only shot on target for large swathes of the contest just 10 minutes after kick-off, with Chelsea fighting back from a goal down to claim the lead thanks to goals from Niamh Charles and Samantha Kerr.

Chelsea looked the dominant force for much of the match and might have been unsatisfied with just two goals even if they had claimed the three points.

But a late challenge from Jess Fleming on Athenea del Castillo handed Real Madrid a lifeline, and Carmona was nerveless from the spot as she lashed her attempt past Ann Katrin Berger to ensure the points were shared in their Champions League group opener.
