Republican Wisconsin Senate candidate Eric Hovde questioned in an interview whether nursing home residents should be voting.

The GOP businessman made the remark during an April 5 interview on the Guy Benson Show.

Hovde brought up nursing homes with '100% voting' as an example in response to a question over whether he believed the 2020 election was stolen.

'Well if you're in a nursing home, you only have five, six month life expectancy,' Hovde said. 'Almost nobody in a nursing home is in a point to vote.'

Hovde went on 'you had children, adult children showing up and saying "who voted for my 85 or 90-year-old father or mother?"'

Hovde is running to unseat Democratic Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin. The close race is rated by the Cook Political Report as 'Lean Democrat.'

The Republican businessman's comments were first reported by Heartland Signal, which noted Hovde's assessment of the length of nursing home life expectancy at five to six months is incorrect.

According to the Administration for Community Living the average duration people use a nursing homes varies greatly person to person. One third of people 65 and older may never need long-term care, but 20 percent will need it for more than five years.

Addressing the issue of more broadly, the multimillionaire Senate hopeful said he's not going to spend his time talking about the 2020 election.

'Do I believe the election was stolen? No, but did things happen in that election that were very troublesome. Absolutely.'

Hovde was endorsed by Trump last week during the ex-president's visit to Green Bay,  Wisconsin.  During his rally, Trump continued to falsely claim he won Wisconsin in 2020 which he did not.

Senator Tammy Baldwin has served in the Senate since 2013

Like the presidential election in Wisconsin, the Senate race is expected to be tight.

The latest The Hill/Emerson poll of the Senate race shows Baldwin leading by three points 45 to 42 percent.
