The entertainment for the AFL Grand Final has been revealed, with a superstar name set to headline at the MCG later this year.

Every year, close scrutiny is paid to the pre-match antics ahead of the bounce and it will be no different on September 28 when two footy teams vie for the game's biggest prize.

Robbie Williams's performance during the 2022 Grand Final was a major hit with fans, while Meatloaf's 2011 effort was a flop.

And according to News Corp, another superstar name from the United States will feature at the biggest game in footy this year, with Katy Perry reportedly lined up to star.

The American sensation, 39, is known for hits like Roar, Teenage Dream and Firework, and also features on the catch adverts for Menulog.

She performed at the Women's T20 World Cup final in 2020 and will reportedly earn a fee of $5million to sing at the Grand Final in September.

'Expect this to be announced in coming weeks. The AFL has been in talks with Perry's management for the last couple of months,' Jay Clark said on Fox Footy.

'The AFL have wanted the biggest names to headline its showpiece event at the end of the year and Katy Perry, it must be said, is one of the world's top female artists. I think 50 million downloads per month on Spotify.

American pop sensation Katy Perry, 39, is expected to perform

'She'll headline barring a last-minute backflip.'

Perry was in Melbourne earlier this year to perform at a private show hosted by Anthony Pratt, a billionaire businessman.

'In recent years the Toyota AFL Grand Final headline performances have been world class and we are excited to deliver another spectacular show ahead of the biggest game of the season,' AFL spokesman Jay Allen said.

'We will be in a position to make an announcement on this year's Telstra pre-game entertainment shortly.'
